Town of Arco

The area

Arco is a municipality in the Autonomous Province of Trento, located near to the where the River Sarca joins Lake Garda. It most likely dates back to Roman times and in the 13th century, it was given as a fiefdom to a Bavarian family who began the dynasty of the Counts of Arco.

The town remained their property until the 19th century, when it was annexed to Austria and the Archduke, Albert, chose it for his winter residence and building a palace that Emperor Wilhelm II then used as a convalescent home for officers from the German army.

The microclimate of Arco benefits from the nearby Lake Garda and from the mountains which protect it from the cold currents coming from the north. The Lower Sarca Valley is the northernmost spur in Europe, where olives grow, providing oil of a superior quality.

The land and lake breezes that blow almost daily mean it is cool in summer and that there is never any mist.

Modern bioclimatology considers this climate as an aid to all therapeutic treatments, as it directly influences the metabolism, respiratory tract, and also muscle and nervous systems.
The specific climate in Arco guarantees all of the benefits of mountain, hill and lake climatotherapy and it is especially suited to all types of care and convalescence.
