Motor and neuromotor rehabilitation

Treatment plan

The rehabilitation programme, which is quite difficult, requires an average of three hours’ treatment per day. It is set out by specialist doctors and carried out by a multifunctional team of professionals.

The rehabilitation cycle usually commences the day after admission, after a rehab and medical check-up, ECG and if necessary, by x-ray and instrumental tests.

Inpatient treatment can vary from three weeks (for orthopaedic and rheumatological problems), to two months (for neurological problems).

Gym

Main treatments involve individual and group kinesitherapy
• neuromotor re-education with customised methods for the motor and psycho-cognitive case history of the patient
• occupational therapy
• massotherapy with its varied techniques
• physical therapy (heat, ultrasound, laser and all forms of analgesic electrotherapy and stimulation)
• magnet therapy, mesotherapy, manu medica vertebral manipulation
• assessment and training for language and cognitive problems.

The rehabilitation course also features sophisticated and modern “virtual reality” technology.

Virtual reality

Using new equipment, the patient, guided by their own physiotherapist can self-manage their exercises on a daily basis and, with reinforced feedback, guide and appreciate improvements in terms of function.

Patients with neuropsychological disabilities will undergo, as well as the above activities, a course of speech therapy, psychology, and neuropsychology with standardised tests and sessions directed towards holistic rehabilitation.

Everyone has individual and group support and relaxation sessions with the psychologist, meetings with the dietician and a weekly group health info group talk, held by the consultant physiatrist and neurologist. At the end of their stay, a report is provided (discharge letter) for the patient’s GP, the Consultant of the hospital referring the patient, and, the patient’s rehabilitation doctor, if any. This letter sets out the patient’s condition, showing the results of activities and recommends further therapy/treatment methods, plus instrumental checks and a programme of customised training to do at home.
